Cultivation
Grow in full sun or partial shade (although autumn colour is better if grown in full sun), in a well-drained but moisture-retentive soil.
Shape
A shrub with a broad and open-growing habit.
Pests
Susceptible to fireblight.
Habitat
Generally found in wet woodlands and riverbanks.
Leaf Description
Leaves to 6 cm, later dark green, paler beneath.
Flower Description
Flower to 2.5 cm in diameter, pure white, solitary or in bundles of 3.
Fruit Description
Fruit to 1.5 cm in diameter, almost black in colour.

Propagation
Propagate through layering. May also use seeds, but unless the plant is isolated the result is unlikely to come true. It is also important to note that spring-sown seeds may take up to two years to germinate.
