General Description
Flattened dark evergreen needles, generally spreading. A slow-growing, but vigorous shrub.
Cultivation
Propagated almost exclusively by rooting stem cuttings, although seeds are an alternative.
Shape
Broad pyramidal small tree or large shrub; spreading.

Red arial covering seed, scaly bark, blunt bud scales, broadly pryamidal, small tree or large shrub.
Pests
Dieback, mites, root rot, weevils while eriophyid mites in buds can cause deformed new growth
Habitat
Perfers moist, sandy, slightly acidic soil in full sun or partial shade.
Bark/Stem Description
Scaly, flaky brown bark, usually hidden by foliage.
Leaf Description
Needle like leaves, dark green colour on the upper side, light green on the under side, needles can be straight or slightly curved.
Flower Description
Dioecious, flowers form on previous years wood, blooms in March and April.
Fruit Description
Ovoid-oblong seed about 8 mm long, partially enveloped by a fleshy cup-shaped disk that is red and called an arial.
Colour Description
Dark green upper side, light to medium green on the under side.
Texture Description
Medium texture.
Propagation
From soft wood cuttings in June.
