General Description
This shrub has been placed on the IUCN Red List as least concern.
Habitat
Forests, stream banks and swamps at an elevation of 600-1,100 m.
Bark/Stem Description
Glabrous branches.
Leaf Description
Ovate or ovate elliptic with 5-8 lateral veins on either side. 1.5 - 3 long and 1 - 2 cm wide. The petiole is 2 - 10 mm long. The bracts are ciliate, 4 - 7 mm long and have elliptic nutlets.
Flower Description
The penduncle is 2 - 5 mm long but can sometimes be 10 mm. Female species have oblong inflorescence which is erect. The flowers bloom from June to July.
Fruit Description
Elliptic nutlet with wings half of its width and are produced July through August.
Colour Description
The branches are purplish-brown and greyish-brown in colour.
