General Description
Mat forming shrub, widely spreading with larger dark green terminal joints which vigorously grow upwards. Spines are found at the upper part of the joint. This species is striking with its large white mats.
Cultivation
Sandy soils.
Habitat
Grassland valleys and high plains at an altitude of 1,800-2,400 m.
Leaf Description
Spines are straight and daggerlike and intertwined, white in colour, 10-20 per areole, 2.5 cm x 2 mm.
Flower Description
Bright yellow flowers, sepaloids a greenish-yellow with the style and stigma lobes white, 3-5x5-6 cm.
Fruit Description
Ellipsoid, spineless, smooth and fleshy, yellow in colour, 4 x 1.9-2.2 cm.
