This species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as least concern and is listed as near threatened in the Chinese Species Red List.
Habitat
Valleys in mixed forests at an altitude of 3,000-3,800 m.

Rough bark with thin, glabrous branchlets.
Flower/Leaf Bud Description
Ellipsoid, small, glabrous and purple in colour.
Leaf Description
Thin, double toothed, 3 triangular-ovate lobes with a cordate or subcordate base, 7-12 x 5-9 cm.
Flower Description
5-20 flowered racemes, 5-petaled flowers, 5 sepals and 8 stamens as long as the petals.
Fruit Description
Flat winged nutlets, 2.3-2.5 cm x 8 mm, produced in September.
