Flowering Period
General Description
Many species of Banksia produce lignotubers which enable they to survive fires, Banksia praemorsa does not produce lignotubers and thus is quite sensitive to harsh brush fires.
Landscape
Feature plant, screen and windbreak.
Cultivation
Full sun and partial-shade. Well-drained soil with acid, neutral and alkaline pH. Prefers sandy, clay, loamy, sandy loam and clay loam soils. Tolerates light frost.
Habitat
Sea-facing side of sand dunes, sand cliffs and hills over limestone.
Bark/Stem Description
Thick sturdy trunk that branches close to the ground.
Leaf Description
Broad leaves of about 5 cm in length, 1.5 cm in width, have toothed margins and truncated ends.
Flower Description
Cylindrical-shaped with occasional variations. 35 cm long and 10 cm in diameter. Flowers bloom in August to November. The flower spikes arise from the ends of small lateral branches
Texture Description
The bark is rough and flaky.
