General Description | A long-lived shrub, grown for it's profuse display of funnel-shaped flowers in late spring and early summer backed by its golden foliage. |
Landscape | Used for shrub borders and woodland fringe. Also excellent for town and city gardens as they are pollution tolerant. |
Propagation | Propagate through 10-12.5 cm basal softwood cuttings in the early summer using a sandy propagating mix. It is also possible to use semi-ripe cutting 8-10cm in length with a heel in summer. Alternatively, one can take 20 cm hardwood cuttings in the autumn after the leaf fall and place this in a sheltered nursery bed. |
Cultivation | Plant in the dormant season in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. As they can become exhausted through their own great flowering, it is best to apply fertilizer and/or organic mulch in the spring. Annual pruning helps to maintain vigour. |
Pests | Generally very pest and disease free. |
Notable Specimens | The A.M. (Mac) Cuddy Gardens, Strathroy, Ontario, Canada. |
Habitat | Horticultural origin. |
