Description and Growing Information

ID CharacteristicAn annual that is short lived with many branched, red stems and prominent yellow flowers.
ShapeLoosely mounding.
CultivationAn annual that appears only after the rains and then only for a short period of time. However where irrigation is present ( as pictured here) it can become more common out of season.
HabitatOpen plains, sandy areas and fallow meadows and fields.
Leaf DescriptionThe deeply dissected linear lobed leaves clasp the stems while the lower leaves taper at the base.
Flower DescriptionThe yellow 1.5 cm terminal flowers are held on 1-8 cm long , thin stalks. The ray florets are as long as the diameter of the centre disc of the bloom and are wide open in the earlier part of the day but towards evening they fold back.
Fruit DescriptionThe 2 mm, oblong fruit have white hair tufts attached to them but soon fall off.
