Landscape | Best for herbaceous or mixed-shrub borders. |
Propagation | Propagated by division in early autumn. Lift roots and stand in shade for several hours before cutting with a sharp knife. It is also important to dust with a fungicide before replanting. |
Cultivation | Lime-tolerant, and may be grown in any rich, moist, well-drained soil with a depth of at least 30 cm. It is also a good idea to plant 60 - 90 cm apart, as they are gross feeders, in full sun or partial shade. |
Pests | Especially susceptible to Botrytis paeoniae (the peony grey mould blight, or peony wilt), which is best prevented through good hygiene, good drainage and good air circulation. Multiple species of eelworm may also be a problem. |
