Propagation | Propagate by seed or by heeled greenwood cuttings in late summer in a humid cold frame, or alternatively by softwood cuttings in summer under mist. |
Cultivation | Shade tolerant when young, but should be grown in sun in any moist, well-drained soil with a neutral to acid pH. Tolerant of pruning and hedge-clipping, which is best done in the summer. |
Pests | Susceptible to phytophthora root rot, as well as the needle blight fungus (Pestalotiopsis spp.) and grey mould (Botrytis cinerea). |
