Grow in full sun, being careful to avoid shade from surrounding plants or objects. Plant in a rich, well-drained soil, preferably incorporating a compost or well-rotted manure the autumn before planting. A support cane approximately 30 cm shorter than the expected height of the plant is recommended. |

Susceptible to attack from aphids, thrips, earworms, eelworms and wasps, as well as slugs and snails. Infection by smut (Entyloma calendulae f. sp. dahliae) may be an issue, and any infected areas should be removed and burned to prevent spreading. The Dahlia mosaic virus, spread by aphids, may also cause problems, and any infected plants should be uprooted and destroyed. |
