Origin:  Introduced into cultivation through Veitch's Nursery near Exeter, Devon, England who enlisted the plant collector Thomas Lobb (1820-1894) on one of his expeditions to Japan. Thomas Lobb was the other half of the famous plant collecting duo and brother to William Lobb (1809-1864) who collected for Veitch primarily in the America's.

Cultivation
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Best flowering in full sun. Wide range of soil tolerance. Prefers moist, humusy soils. Stems are somewhat short-lived, and annual pruning of dead branches is usually necessary. Prune in spring immediately after flowering.
