General Description |
A semi-hardy shrub that may reach a height of 4 m, it is known to attract butterflies and hummingbirds. In severe winters this shrub may be killed to the ground and should not be pruned until it shows signs of established growth in the spring. Purple Prince is an exceptional purple-bloomed variety that is quite striking. As it is an informal plant it is best suited to the back of the border and if it becomes overly impolite it can be cut back mercilessly. Full sun and lean soil, it may tend to seed in gravel driveways and dry areas of the garden although its seedlings are easily hoed out. |
