Bark/Stem Description
Finely plated, dark grey bark. Limbs are often prone to splitting in heavy, wet snows.
Leaf Description
Cordate shaped leaves, light green in colour that grow to 6 - 10cm across. Dull green on the underside and often slightly downy at the vein leaf axils.
Flower Description
Flowers are rose-purple with a bell shaped calyx and five petals. Clusters of 4 - 8 pink pea like flowers along branches and trunk prior to leaf emergence in the spring.
Fruit Description
Thin pods, often to 4 - 6 cm long and held in clusters of one to several.
Colour Description
Sporadic, yellow autumn colour.
