Pests
The fuchsia gall mite (Aculops fuchsia) is now widespread throughout the British Isles and can be spread with infested plant material including cuttings. The insect sucks sap from the plant tips and flowers causing sever disfigurement. Some species and cultivars such as F. 'Cinnabarina', F. 'Minature Jewels', F. 'Space Shuttle', F. microphylla subsp. hidalgensis, F. thymifolia and F. venusta show some resistance. Cutting back plants will eliminate most of the mites but not all of the mites; there is no chemical control.
Habitat
Horticultural origin.
