Cultivation
Leeks can be grown in a range of soils, although coarse sands and heavy soils are not ideal, as sand can get into the leaf sheath and on the heavier soils lifting is harder. They cannot be grown on soil that dries out rapidly and which cannot be irrigated as they have a high requirement for water. Leeks do not grow well in acidic conditions, if the soil pH is 6.5 liming may be needed.

Purple blotch (Alternaria porri), rust (Puccinia spp.), white tip (Phytophthora porri), Onion thrips (Thrips tabaci).
