Cultivation
Grow in any deep, fertile, moisture-retentive soil in full sun or shade.
Pests
Susceptible to coral spot and canker, leaf-scorching can sometimes occur in hot, dry summers.
Leaf Description
5 elliptical, dark green leaflets to 12 cm that are glabrous with a hairy midrib beneath.
Flower Description
Flowers in erect racemes, with yellow petals, the upper part of which are tinged red.
Fruit Description
Fruit is scaly with short spines.
Propagation
Propagate by grafting in late winter and budding in late summer, using basal buds from the shoots nearest the old wood, which normally remain dormant.
