General Description
A tree that is very similar to Acer argutum, distinguished by its larger fruit and more coarsely biserrate leaves. This species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as least concern.

Mixed and coniferous alpine forests at an altitude of 500-2,300 m.
Bark/Stem Description
Smooth greyish-yellow or greyish brown bark with reddish brown branchlets.

2 pairs of scales.
Leaf Description
Leaves are broadly elliptical with 5-7 coarsely-serrated lobes. Dark green above and lighter beneath, turning yellow in autumn, 8-10 x 6-8 cm.
Flower Description
Flowers are glabrous and yellow-green.
Fruit Description
Samars and veined, winged nutlets, 3-3.5 cm, produced August through September.
