General Description
This new maple (discovered in 2003), has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened.
Habitat
On the western slopes of the Mt. Cangshan valley.
Bark/Stem Description
Newer branchlets are pubescent and greenish in colour, the older branchles are glabrescent and brown or dark brown in colour.
Flower/Leaf Bud Description
Ovoid, dark brown with 9 pairs of scales.
Leaf Description
Thin, 5 primary veins with 5 shallow lobes and a cordate base, 10-20 x 11-25 cm.
Flower Description
Yellowish-green 5 petaled flower with 5 yellowish-green sepals, 8 stamens. Flowers are hermaphroditic.
Fruit Description
Fruit racemes of 9-17 fruits, reddish green when young maturing to a yellowish brown, winged nutles, produced in September.
