With a distribution area of only 2,000 km, this species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as vulnerable.
Habitat
Montane forests at an altitude up to 3,000 m.
Bark/Stem Description
Scaly, greenish-black in colour and crackled.
Flower/Leaf Bud Description
Ovoid with pubescent scales, 6 mm in length.
Leaf Description
Thick with a bubbled surface, glabrescent with some hairs along the midrib, 7-10 secondary veins on either side of the midvein and a rounded or cordate base.
Flower Description
Inflorescences, 4-9 cm in length.
Fruit Description
Acorn, blackish-brown in colour, 2-3 cm in diameter.
