General Description
This species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened and is considered vulnerable in China.
Habitat
Mountains in evergreen forests at an altitude of 400-1,800 m.
Bark/Stem Description
Glabrous and angular branchlets.
Leaf Description
Oblong-elliptic to obovate, glabrous and shinny, dark green, greyish or whitish, 9-12 secondary veins on either side of the midvein and a cuneate base, 5-16 x 2-6 cm.
Flower Description
Female inflorescence, 1-2 cm.
Fruit Description
Acorn, ellipsoid, singular or in pairs, 2-3 cm in length, produced October through December.
