Habitat
Found at altitudes of 1,600-2,400 m.

Pubescent twigs.
Flower/Leaf Bud Description
Ovoid with ovate scales, 2-6 x 1-2.5 mm.
Leaf Description
Oboval to elliptic, 6-12 secondary veins on either side of the midvein and a cordate base, 2.8-12 x 1.6-7 cm.
Flower Description
Male catkins, 2-8 mm in length and female flowers grouped 1-3.
Fruit Description
Acorn, 0.7-1.9 x 0.4-1.3 cm, produced August through September.
