General Description
This species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened, it is considered as endangered in Mexico and Panama and near threatened in Guatemala.

Habitat
Mountains and rainforests at an altitude of 800-3,000 m.

Light grey bark.
Flower/Leaf Bud Description
Subglobose and hairless, 2-8 mm.
Leaf Description
Oboval, oblanceolate or elliptical, thick, wavy with 7-20 secondary veins on either side of the midvein and a rounded base, dark green and glabrous with a yellowish-green underside, 10-20 x 4-9 cm.
Fruit Description
Globose acorn, 3-6 cm in diameter.
