|This species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened and is considered critically endangered in China.
|Forests in valleys at an altitude of 1,100-1,800 m.
|Greyish brown bark with light brown twigs.
|Oboval to oboval-lanceolate, glossy green with dull underside, a cuneate base and 18-22 secondary veins on either side of the midvein, 15-27 x 4.5- cm.
|Male catkins drooping and grouped in 3's.
|Subglobose, light brown acorn, 4.5-5.5 cm in diameter, produced October through November.
