General Description
This species has been placed on the IUCN Red List as globally threatened and is considered critically endangered in China.
Habitat
Forests in valleys at an altitude of 1,100-1,800 m.
Bark/Stem Description
Greyish brown bark with light brown twigs.
Leaf Description
Oboval to oboval-lanceolate, glossy green with dull underside, a cuneate base and 18-22 secondary veins on either side of the midvein, 15-27 x 4.5- cm.
Flower Description
Male catkins drooping and grouped in 3's.
Fruit Description
Subglobose, light brown acorn, 4.5-5.5 cm in diameter, produced October through November.
