Wet montane forests and volcanic slopes at an altitude of 1,000-2,400 m.
Bark/Stem Description
Dark in colour, fissured with reddish-brown twigs.

Ovoid and obtuse, 4-7 mm in length.
Leaf Description
Elliptic, obovate or lanceolate, thin, 10-13 pairs of teeth, a paler glabrous underside, with a truncate, cordate or obtuse base and 9-15 prominent secondary veins on either side of the midvein.
Flower Description
Male catkins, 7 cm in length.
Fruit Description
Acorn, ovoid, light brown, singular or paired, 2-5 cm in length.
