Description and Growing Information
Flowering Period
General Description
Deciduous shrub reaching 8 m tall with rough brown or silvery grey bark, mid-green leaves and white, star-shaped spring flowers.
Cultivation
Grow in moist, humus-rich, well-drained neutral to acid soil in sun or part shade with shelter from cold winds. Late frosts may damage flower buds.
Shape
A conical, deciduous tree.
Pests
Scale insects, coral spot, honey fungus and phytophthora root rot.
Leaf Description
Aromatic, oval leaves, to 12 cm long, with pale undersides.
Flower Description
A star-shaped, white flower, up to 10 cm across, with 6- 12 petals.
Propagation
By softwood or greenwood cuttings from late spring to early summer or by semi-hardwood cuttings from late summer to autumn.
