General Description
Pyramidal in shape, scale like foliage, scale bark, dark green in colour with white wax band on the underside.
Cultivation
The Cupressaceae family can tolerate very cold weather and are not fussy about soil types. Thuja koriensis prefers well drained soils and full sun.
Shape
This tree usually has a pyramidal shape but on occasion, when pruned, it can lay horrizontally.

ID Characteristic
Pyramidal in shape, leaves in opposite pairs in ranks of 4 scale like incurved, around 2 mm in length. Pale/white underside, fruit almond smell when crushed. Up right cones, elongated around 1 cm in length with 8 to 10 scales.
Pests
Susceptible to scale bugs and phomopsis tip blight.

Scale bark, light brown/reddish in colour.
Flower/Leaf Bud Description
Yellow in colour forming into a reddish brown when ripening.
Leaf Description
Scale leaves 2 to 4 mm long, bright white underside.
Flower Description
Flowers are smaller with 4-6 scales and are pollinated by the wind.
Fruit Description
8 to 14 mm long, 4 to 5 mm broad, opening to 6 to 9 mm. Brown scales in four pairs, linear/obovate.
Colour Description
Dark green foliage with white stomatal wax bands on the underside. Darker reddish brown scaled bark.
Texture Description
Rough scales like foliage and waxy white stomatal bands.
Propagation
From seed, stratified for 7 to 10 days at approximately 0°. For soft wood cuttings, stratify in February with bottom heat and mist.
