General Description
This astonishing plant has very showy flowers in late spring, early summer. This particular plant has dark pink bell-shaped flowers. This cultivar is extremely cold hardy tolerating full sun, light shade, and thrives in average soils.
Landscape
This shrub is used best in groupings or massing. Also used in shrub borders, small hedges or foundation plantings.
Cultivation
Weigela florida ‘Minuet’ transplants fairly easily. Transplant bare root or from container. Prefers to be planted in well-drained soils in full sun – partial shade. This shrub is a medium grower and accepts acidic, neutral and alkaline soils.

This elegant and hardy spring-flowering shrub is covered in reddish-pink trumpet-shaped flowers with yellow throats, which attract humming birds. It has green-tinged purple leaves. The corolla is ruby red and the petal lobes are lilac purple.
Pests
No serious pests or diseases. Weigela has little problem with insects, but is susceptible to fungal diseases, such as gray mold.
Habitat
Horticultured origin.
Bark/Stem Description
The bark on Weigela florida ‘Minuet’ is grey-brown in colour. The bark has circular lenticels and rows of small hairs between the nodes.
Flower/Leaf Bud Description
Slightly fragrant ruby red tubular-shaped blooms in spring, with lilac-purple edges and yellow throats. Sparse or scattered blooms may occur again in mid to late summer.
Leaf Description
Weigela florida ‘Minuet’ has medium green leaves, opposite, simple, and ovate, 5–11 cm long, 2–3.5 cm wide, tomentose on lower veins. Leaves have a very short petiole.
Flower Description
Perfect flowers 3.2-6.5 cm long. Narrow below middle, rosy pink outside, with rounded spreading lobes. Dark pink bell shaped flowers. Blossoms are born on 1-year-old branches.
Fruit Description
The fruit has no ornamental value. Seed capsule that is 2 valved and 2.5 cm long. The seeds tend to be mostly without wings.
Colour Description
Leaf colour is medium to dark green/purple in the summer months and turns a brownish/purple colour in the autumn. Flowers are red; deep rose pink with yellow throats.
Texture Description
Medium texture in summer. Leaves are coarse in texture and when bare branches are of medium density.

Propagation
Weigela florida ‘Minuet’ is one of the easiest plants to root. Propagate from greenwood cuttings in early summer or semi-ripe cuttings in mid-summer. Tissue culture has been successful in the past.
