Origin:  Naturally occurring, discovered in the early 1900s by a Mrs. Kirkpatrick, who noticed the unusual round-headed white flower clusters while horseback riding through the hills of Anna, Illinois, in the United States of America. Introduced by Joe McDaniel.

General Description
Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' is a small, bushy deciduous shrub with broadly oval, serrated leaves and large spherical clusters of white sterile flowers.
Cultivation
Grow in full sun to part shade, in moderately moist, well-drained soil. Prune close to the ground in late winter to encourage new growth and flowering the following season. Flowers emerge on new wood.

No serious pests or diseases of note. This particular cultivar has shown resistance to mildew, bacterial wilt, leaf spot and bud blight.

Broadly oval, dark green, margins serrate, 7.5 - 20 cm long.
