Very hardy, but prefers a deep, well-draining loam soil.

Bark is silvery grey or slightly tinged pink.
Leaf Description
Leaves are dull dark green and slightly hairy above, with veins in 6-7 pairs and pubescence beneath, growing to 3-5 x 2-4.5 cm.
Fruit Description
Catkins to 2-4 x 1-2 cm, with fruiting scales that are erect at the tip.

Propagation
Propagate by seed, with light present for germination, although seeds may not come true. Can also be propagated through side-veneer grafts in late winter.
