General Description |
Juniperus squamata 'Blue Carpet' is a prostrate, woody, needled evergreen shrub with blue-green foliage and an overall flattened appearance. |
Landscape |
Makes an excellent ground cover. Also use in foundations, on banks and slopes or in borders. |
Cultivation |
Grow in full sun, in moderately moist, well-drained, sandy soil. Tolerant to drought, erosion, air pollution and a wide range of soils including shallow-rocky. Some intolerance to hot, humid environments. Does not tolerate wet soil. |

No serious pests or diseases to note. Possible pests include: spider mites, bagworms, aphids, scale, webworms and twig borers. The genus is susceptible to blights, in particular phomopsis twig blight, during very wet springs. Watch for root rot in wet or poorly drained soil. Plant pathogens that cause rust diseases such as cedar apple rust spend part of their life cycle on Junipers. |
