General Description
Assessed as rare in 1997, this species is still globally threatened and on the IUCN Red List.
Cultivation
Very rare in cultivation. Prefers heavy clay, and is drought tolerant.
Pests
Seedlings are vulnerable to slugs and drought.
Habitat
Mountainous regions.
Bark/Stem Description
Greyish-white in colour, peels in thin flakes.
Leaf Description
Ovate to suborbicular with a rounded to broadly cuneate base, 8-10 lateral veins on either side of the mid vein, 4-7x3-5 cm.
Flower Description
Ellipsoid catkins, 2.5-3.5 cm.
Fruit Description
Broadly obovoid, 3-4 mm nutlets with very narrow wings.
Propagation
Propagated by seed.
