General Description
This species is considered to be locally threatened in Japan and has been placed on the IUCN Red List as least concern.
Habitat
Forests, dry or moist slopes and rocks on mountain summits at an altitude of 400-1,30 m.
Bark/Stem Description
Fissured, blackish-brown with glabrous reddish-brown or dark brown branches.
Leaf Description
ovate, broadly ovate or elliptic, with 6-8 lateral veins on either side, 4-8 x 3.5-5 cm.
Flower Description
Oblong female inflorescence.
Fruit Description
Broad elliptic and glabrous nutlet with wings 1/2 its length, produced July through August.
Texture Description
Hard and dense.
