Flowering Period
General Description
Low mat or clump forming with large green terminal joints, not completely obscured by spines.
Cultivation
Sandy soils, drought tolerant.
Habitat
Desert and grassland flats, washes and hillsides at an altitude of 1,400-2,200 m.
Leaf Description
Spines are only located on the upper areoles, reddish-brown in colour, 6-10 per areole, 2.5-3.8 cm long.
Flower Description
Yellow on occasion pink or red flowers with yellow filaments 9 mm in length, anthers 1.5 mm long and greenish-yellow style 12-22 mm.
Fruit Description
Brown or pale drown in colour, obovoid, sparsely covered in spines, 2-4 x 1.2-2.5 cm.
