Origin:  The genus is named after John Bartram, the famous American Quaker botanist. Native to Alberta and British Columbia in Canada. Also found in South America; Europe; Asia and the Pacific Islands of Hawaii and New Zealand and further into Tasmania in Australia.

General Description
An endangered species in Canada threatened by human disturbances, fire and the small population. Found in Canada in only nine locations.
Shape
Lax to dense tufts that are greenish to yellow-brown in colour.

Found at elevations of 200-500 m on shaded cliffs, rocky mountain slopes and outcrops in both temperate and humid forests.
