Description and Information

These gardens date back to the 16th century when Sir Francis Godolphin had them built. There are four separate sections: The Kings Garden, The Side Garden, The Paddock, and The Orchard. The Kings Garden is a walled structure protecting a diverse population of primroses, hedges, and lavenders. In the Side gardens much of the plant life is prioritized to help maintain and grow the local insects, while the Paddock is home to the first native bee haven on a National Trust site in the UK. The final garden is known as the Orchard; The apple, pear, medlar, cherry, and white mulberry trees will blossom in spring and bear fruit in September.
